Nurturing Support for New Beginnings

"My partner, Anabeth Liu, and I welcomed our baby last month, and as we’ve been reflecting on those early postpartum weeks, we wanted to share how exceptional Mericia (“Meri”) Barajas was as our night doula. We feel incredibly grateful for the care, support, and warmth she brought into our home during such a tender and challenging time.

From the very beginning, Meri was completely reliable and professional, always arriving on time and ready to help in whatever way was needed. Her written and spoken English is at the level of professional fluency. What truly set her apart was her presence. She brought a calm, grounded, and positive energy that immediately put us at ease during a period that often felt overwhelming.

Meri connected with our baby in such a genuine and joyful way. She would sing, laugh, and engage so naturally, even whispering to her in Español, which we absolutely loved. It was clear how much care and heart she puts into her work. She was also wonderful with our dog (who was obsessed with Meri) and seamlessly fit into the rhythm of our small apartment even though it got so hectic and cramped at times.  

During more difficult moments, especially when we were navigating challenges like mastitis, a delay in milk supply, and the emotional ups and downs of the first few weeks, Meri was an incredible source of support. She offered thoughtful guidance, always asking permission before giving advice, and never imposing judgment. Her ability to “read the room” and respond with sensitivity, flexibility, and intuition made a huge difference for us. When things felt dark, she brought reassurance and hope. Importantly, thanks to her we were able to get full nights of SLEEP!

It goes without saying that Meri has a great work ethic (eg., she sent us detailed diaries of wet diapers, quantity of bottle feeds). But also we were thankful for her wealth of experience when it comes to infants, for example her clinical judgment on whether the baby was getting diaper rashes, anal fissures etc. In terms of people skills, she is down to earth, personable, and genuinely caring, the kind of person you trust fully with your family.  

If you are looking for a doula, Meri is someone you can trust completely, not just for her skills, but for her integrity, warmth, and emotional intelligence. We feel incredibly fortunate that she was part of our postpartum journey. You will be able to sleep with a more peaceful mindset with her in your life.
